Thunderducks Roll by Raritan Valley, 7-2, in National Quarterfinals

BATAVIA, N.Y. – Dallas College Richland's top-ranked men's soccer team beat Raritan Valley Community College, 7-2, Tuesday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III quarterfinals.

Joseph Min scored two goals, and had an assist, and Enrique Alvarez and Alan Rivera each had a goal and an assist for Richland (13-2-0). The Thunderducks move on to play Camden County College (15-0-0) in Friday's 10 a.m. CT semifinals. The semifinals can be watched on the NJCAA Network or followed on Live Stats.

Richland outshot Raritan Valley, 31-5.

Rivera's goal in the 27th minute was the game winner.

Min put the Thunderducks on the board 3:52 into the match when he headed in a rebound off the post, following a header by Jose Diaz on a corner kick. Alvarez made it 2-0 when he scored an unassisted goal in the 21st minute.

Less than six minutes later, Rivera extended the lead to 3-0 on an assist from Min.

Raritan Valley (10-4-3) answered 1:15 later on a goal by Angel Cortes. Charlie Geibel had the assist to cut the deficit to 3-1.

That's where it stood at halftime. The Thunderducks attempted 17 shots to Raritan Valley's three in the opening half.

In the 53rd minute, Valerio Del Mastro's goal put Richland ahead, 4-1. Alvarez drew the assist. Simone Pitale bumped the lead to 5-1 with a goal in the 71st minute. Aubry Eason had the assist.

Min recorded his second goal in the 75th minute with an unassisted goal to give the Thunderducks a five-goal cushion. Alexis Cruz tacked on another goal at the 76:37 mark on an assist from Rivera to make it 7-1.

The Lions scored the final goal in the 81st minute when Syun Kataria deposited a setup from German Burset Romero.

Richland starting goalkeeper Emmanuel Carmona made two saves in 80:08 of work between the posts. Backup keeper Mikkel Jensen did not face a shot in the final 9:52. Raritan Valley's Juan Orozco stopped eight shots, while playing the entire game.

The Thunderducks attempted eight corner kicks.

Richland has won the last six NJCAA Division III national championships, and have collected 12 national titles in program history.
