
Thunderducks Take Down No. 13 North Lake in Four Sets

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Richland's volleyball team beat No. 13 Dallas College North Lake, 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, Monday to end the first half of Dallas Athletic Conference play.
The Thunderducks evened their record at 13-13 overall, and improved to 3-2 in the league. North Lake fell to 13-12, 3-2.
Richland hit .294 in the fourth set on 13 kills and three errors in 34 attacks.
Thunderducks setter Isabella Foutz had a season-high 16 kills and no errors in 18 swings for a whopping .889 attack percentage, and added 17 assists, a block and an ace. Kensington Jordon also banged down 16 kills, and had one block.
Leading 1-0 in the match, Richland raced out to an 18-9 lead in the second set, following kills by Parker Kimball and Jordon and a pair of aces by Myra Memon. North Lake cut it to 19-17 after an ace by Katie Lloyd and a Thunderducks error. Mia Morrow's kill pushed Richland back up by four before the Blazers tied it at 23-23 on a Gabi Smith kill and a Richland error. Jordan Connolly pounded back-to-back kills to end the set, giving the Thunderducks a 2-0 lead.
Kara Washington had a kill and a service point to put Richland ahead, 19-15, in the third set. Riley Weiher's kill and an ace by Gabi Smith pulled the Blazers within a point. Kimball's sneak-set kill made it 20-18 before Weiher and Brooklyne Dewberry put down balls to tie it for North Lake. Kimball's overhead fake-set kill and two putaways by Jordon pushed the Thunderducks back on top, 23-20. North Lake then ran off the next five points to win the set, pulling within 2-1 in the match.
Connolly blasted three kills in the fourth set to give the Thunderducks an 11-6 lead. Hadley Klock's kill pulled North Lake within 11-9. Jordon and Morrow each had kills to make it 16-12. Dewberry's kill cut it to 19-16 before Jordon answered with one of her own. Natalia Gonzales put down a ball as the Blazers closed to within 20-18, but Kimball served two points to stretch the lead back to four. Shi'Miria Phillips' kill and a point by Lloyd pulled North Lake within 22-20, but Jordon and Morrow each had a kill and a Blazers error ended the match.
Washington and Morrow each had nine kills. Morrow also had three blocks, and Washington eight digs and a block. Connolly had seven kills, no errors, two blocks and hit a season-best .538. Kimball finished with 25 assists, 10 digs, six kills and three aces. Memon had 21 digs and three aces.
The Thunderducks hit .263 in the match, pounding a season-high 63 kills.
Richland will host Dallas College Cedar Valley 6 p.m. Thursday.
