Richland Hosts Brookhaven Friday to Cap First Round of DAC

DALLAS – Dallas College Richland hosts Dallas College Brookhaven 7 p.m. Friday to end the first round of Dallas Athletic Conference women's soccer action.

Richland (5-2-0, 3-1-0 DAC) and Brookhaven (4-2-2, 2-0-2) have decided the league and district titles dating back to 2016. The two DAC powerhouses have also won six national championships during that time. They've tied once in each of the past two seasons during head-to-head matchups.

This year, they both sit behind Dallas College Cedar Valley (5-1-1, 3-0-1) atop the DAC standings. Cedar Valley finishes the first round of conference play at home Friday against Dallas College Mountain View.

Richland, which is receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings, has won its last three conference games, including a pair of shutouts. In a 6-0 win at Mountain View Tuesday, Jatziry Loya scored a hat trick, converting all three shots she attempted, and added an assist for a seven-point game. Linzy Villa, Abigail Iyoke and Kaylee Haskins each had one goal for the Thunderducks.

Goalkeepers April Reep and Lorial Allen each spent a half between the posts to combine on the shutout. It was the Thunderducks' second clean sheet in DAC play. Reep has a 1.45 goals against average, and has played a role in both shutouts.

Brookhaven, ranked No. 2 in the national poll, is unbeaten in its last five games. The Bears have scored 12 goals in their past two matches. Gracie Murillo, the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week, had two goals and a pair of assists in the first of those two games. Gianna Antovoni scored twice in Tuesday's 5-1 win over Dallas College Eastfield. Kate Carlson, Natalia Banda and Lauren Moore each had one goal.

Bears keeper Brianna Flores made two saves in Tuesday's win. She has a 1.00 goals against average and three shutouts this year.

Last season, the three-game season series between the two teams was decided by a goal twice, following the scoreless draw.
