Thunderducks Stop Suns in District Semis, Move on to Championship

CARROLLTON, Texas – Dallas College Richland women's soccer team beat Dallas College Cedar Valley, 2-0, in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District semifinals Thursday at Veterans Soccer Park.

The No. 3 nationally-ranked Thunderducks (9-1-3) will play No. 2 Dallas College Brookhaven (11-2-1) for the district championship 12 p.m. Saturday at Brookhaven. The game will be broadcast on TSBN.

Last year Brookhaven beat Richland, 1-0, in the district championship. The Bears won the regular season series between the two teams by a goal. The two teams tied in a scoreless draw the first time the two teams met.

Lanettia Aikens scored on an assist from Haleigh Goodson at the 33:25 mark to take a 1-0 lead in a half the Thunderducks attempted 12 of its 20 shots.

Cedar Valley, which finished 10-6-1, with three of the losses coming to Richland, managed one shot on frame in the opening half. The Suns had three shots, two on goal, in the second half.

Thunderducks keeper Paige Elliott made three saves, notching her sixth shutout in seven starts.

Keely Martin scored the second goal after a takeaway in the box.

Richland is seeking its first district title since beating Brookhaven, 2-1, in overtime in 2018 en route to a national championship.
