No. 3 Thunderducks Meet No. 2 Brookhaven in DAC Title-on-Line Clash

No. 2 Dallas College Brookhaven hosts No. 3 Dallas College Richland in a Top 5-ranked National Junior College Athletic Association Division III women's soccer game 6 p.m. Friday to likely decide the Dallas Athletic Conference champion. The first meeting between the two teams ended in a scoreless draw Sept. 26 at Richland.

Brookhaven (8-2-1, 7-0-1 DAC) outshot Richland (8-0-2, 7-0-1) in the first meeting, 20-7. But Thunderducks goalkeeper Paige Elliott stopped all five shots on goal in the shutout. Bears keeper Emma Garces was credited with two saves.

Only Dallas College North Lake has scored on the Bears this season in DAC matchups. Richland has given up goals to North Lake and Dallas College Cedar Valley. Since the two teams met, only the Bears have allowed a goal. The Thunderducks have recorded five straight shutouts since the scoreless draw to Brookhaven, which is coming off a 12-0 shellacking of Dallas College Mountain View Tuesday.

Whitni Newbill leads Brookhaven with eight goals – four of them coming in two games against Mountain View. Natalie Ipina, Natalie Lopez, Kaley Robison and Sayer Taylor each have five goals, and Yvette Armenta and Gracie Murillo four apiece. Newbill's 20 points is tops on the team.

Richland's Destiny Garcia has eight goals and 19 points. Giovanna Valerio has five goals and four assists, and Ashley Rosete four goals and 10 points. Ximena Resendiz has three goals and five assists.

The winner of this one will hold the upper hand in hosting the NJCAA Division III South District Tournament Oct. 26-28. The final regular season game is 6 p.m. Tuesday. Brookhaven hosts Dallas College Cedar Valley on Sophomore Night. Richland concludes the DAC and regular season schedule 6 p.m. Tuesday at home versus Dallas College Eastfield.
