Beard Named DAC co-Offensive Player of Year

DALLAS -- Dallas College Richland women's basketball's Paris Beard was named the co-Offensive Player of the Year in the Dallas Athletic Conference.

Thunderducks teammate Mahogany Jackson-Walker was named the league's Most Improved Player, while Troy Thrasher picked up the Coach of the Year.

Beard, Jackson-Walker, Aspen Hicks, Kristen Thomas and Sanaa Darensberg were First Team All-DAC choices. Skylar Johnson and Essence Hurndon received Second Team honors.

A sophomore guard from Mount Pleasant, Texas, Beard averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.7 steals per game. She shot 41.7 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.

A freshman guard from Allen, Texas, Jackson-Walker averaged 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds, while shooting 41.4 percent from the floor and 73.5 percent from the free throw line.

A freshman forward from Denton, Texas, Hicks averaged 9.5 points and 5.8 rebounds, and shot 40 percent from the floor and 71.7 percent from the free throw line.

A freshman forward from Jefferson, Texas, Thomas averaged 6.6 points and 6.2 rebounds, while shooting 69 percent from the free throw line.

A freshman guard from Mesquite, Texas, Darensberg scored 10.2 points, while shooting 70 percent from the free throw line. She grabbed 4.4 rebounds, and had one steal per game.

A freshman guard from Pattonville, Texas, Johnson averaged 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 rebounds.

A freshman from Mount Pleasant, Hurdon averaged 3.3 points and five boards, while shooting 61.7 percent from the free throw line.

Thrasher guided the Thunderducks to the DAC regular season title.

Richland went 16-8, advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Central District semifinals.
