Thunderducks Blank Herkimer, Play for 6th Straight National Crown Sunday

GASTONIA, N.C. – Dallas College Richland's men's soccer team will play for a sixth straight national championship.

The top-seeded Thunderducks beat fourth-seeded Herkimer College, 2-0, Friday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III semifinals at CaroMont Health Park to advance to Sunday's 5:30 p.m. CT title game.

Ivan Villatoro scored the gamewinning goal in the 37^th minute on an assist from Luis Vargus. Richland added an insurance goal when Vargus scored his sixth goal of the tournament on a setup from Alan Rivera in the 56th minute.

The Thunderducks outshot the Generals, 15-6, which included a 10-1 advantage in the first half.

Richland's Arath Valdez made three stops in goal, while Herkimer's Cathal Carney made six saves.

The Thunderducks have won 11 national championships in program history.
