
Smith Picked as NJCAA DIII Player of Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College Richland baseball's Trey Smith was selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association Division IIII Player of the Week.
A sophomore outfielder from San Antonio, Smith batted .437 with four doubles, a home run, 10 RBI, four runs scored and three walks as then-No. 4 preseason-ranked Richland swept a three-game DAC series from Dallas College Brookhaven after falling 5-4 to open the week at NJCAA Division I No. 24 Paris Junior College. Smith homered and doubled in the loss at Paris. He went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI in a 12-11 late-rally win over Brookhaven to open the three-game league set. He also drove in four runs in the second game victory. Smith hit safely in each of the four games during the week to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
Smith is hitting .405 with 11 doubles, five homers, a triple and 32 RBI this season.
Now ranked No. 6, the Thunderducks (13-10) will host Western Oklahoma State 1 p.m. Thursday before entertaining Joliet Junior College and Dallas-Fort Worth Prep in back-to-back games beginning 10 a.m. Saturday.
