Smoot Named National Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College Richland's Jacob Smoot was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Pitcher of the Week.

A sophomore left hander from Burleson, Texas, Smoot struck out a career-high 12 batters, and allowed three hits and two walks, but did not allow a run in six innings in a 14-0 win over Redlands Community College last week. His victory in that shining performance bumped his overall record on the mound to 4-1 with a 3.09 earned run average and 33 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched this season.

Smoot's four wins entering the week were tied for third among NJCAA Division III leaders, while his 33 strikeouts were ninth.

Fourth-ranked Richland (19-9, 6-1 Dallas Athletic Conference) will play Games 2-3 of its three-game series at No. 2 Dallas College Eastfield (23-7, 6-1) Friday and Saturday at noon.
