Gelpi Named DAC Hitter of Week

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Richland's Jouseph Gelpi was chosen as the Dallas Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.

A sophomore outfielder from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, Gelpi hit .667 (6-for-9) with three doubles, a home run, four RBI, 10 runs scored and four stolen bases as the Thunderducks went 2-1 against Dallas College Brookhaven to capture their second straight conference series this year. Gelpi had multiple hits in two of the three games. He was 2-for-2 with a homer and three walks, and scored five times in a 10-5 win in the first of two games Saturday. He had three hits, including two doubles, an RBI, a walk, three runs scored and two stolen bases in the 14-10 Game 2 loss Saturday. He doubled, drove in two runs, walked, scored twice and had two stolen bases in the series-opening 17-10 victory at Brookhaven.

Gelpi is batting .422 with five homers, 12 doubles, 22 RBI and 21 stolen bases this season. He leads the country in stolen bases, and is tied for third in home runs.

Ranked No. 14 in the NJCAA Division III poll, Richland (15-8, 5-1 DAC) will play a doubleheader at Redlands Community College 1 p.m. Tuesday before hosting Joliet Junior College and McCook Community College for a pair of twin bills 12 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
