
Blaede Named Co-Pitcher of Year, 10 Thunderducks Earn All-DAC Honors
Dallas College Richland's Jacob Blaede was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year.
A sophomore from Frisco, Texas, Blaede went 8-2 with a 3.30 earned run average and 86 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched. His 86 strikeouts were tied for sixth among National Junior College Athletic Association Division III leaders. He had a career-high 10 strikeouts in a win over South Arkansas Community College Feb. 11.
First baseman Aaron Biediger, shortstop Nick Chalman, outfielder Jouseph Gelpi, designated hitter Jadon Fratus and pitcher Jason Scrantom earned First Team All-DAC honors. Outfielder Seth Markham, utility player Wes Flatt and relief pitchers Carson Caudill and Taylor Hendrix were Second Team selections.
A freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, Biediger batted .381 with 19 doubles, a triple, 18 home runs, 72 runs batted in, 15 stolen bases and 69 runs scored. His 18 homers were tied for second nationally, his 72 RBI seventh, and his 19 doubles were tied for 10th.
A sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, Chalman hit .403 with 19 doubles, five triples, eight homers, 50 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 73 runs scored. He was tied for 10th in the country in doubles and eighth in runs scored.
A freshman from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, Guelpi batted .404 with 18 doubles, five triples, five home runs, 42 RBI, 22 stolen bases and 70 runs scored. His 73 runs scored were tied for 12th in NJCAA Division III.
A sophomore from Beaumont, Texas, Fratus led the Thunderducks in hitting with a .417 average, while slugging 23 doubles, a triple, 12 home runs, 54 RBI, and scoring 40 runs. His 23 two-baggers ranked fourth in the nation.
A sophomore from Sachse, Texas, Scrantom went 3-4 with a 3.47 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 49.1 innings. He struck out a season-high 11 batters against Dallas College Mountain View May 6, and recorded double-digit strikeouts in two games.
A freshman from Belton, Texas, Markham hit .377 with 10 doubles, a triple, three homers, 23 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 40 runs scored.
A sophomore from Grapevine, Texas, Flatt had a .324 batting average with 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 45 RBI, 29 stolen bases and 53 runs scored.
A sophomore from Lexington, Kentucky, Caudill was 1-1 with three saves, a 5.06 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 32 innings. His three saves were tied for 11th in the country. He struck out a season-high six batters in 2.2 innings of relief in a win over Dallas College Eastfield.
A sophomore from Conroe, Texas, Hendrix went 2-1 with four saves, a 2.84 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 19 innings. His four saves were tied for fifth in the nation.
Under first-year head coach Jimmy Brenneman, Richland went 37-22 overall, 21-9 in the DAC, advancing to the South Central District championship round, and finishing the season with a No. 13 national ranking.
