Thunderducks to Compete in South Central District Thursday
Dallas College Richland's baseball team will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament this week at Dallas College Eastfield.
Seeded second in the six-team tournament, Richland (35-20) will play the highest remaining seed at 1 p.m. Thursday, following the completion of Wednesday's single-elimination games. The championship game is set for noon Saturday, with an if-necessary game to follow. The tournament schedule may be altered due to weather conditions.
The Thunderducks finished second in the Dallas Athletic Conference this season. They advanced to the district championship game last season, falling to Dallas College Eastfield, 15-2.
Richland is batting .341 as a team, which ranks 22nd in NJCAA Division III. The Thunderducks have hit 62 home runs, which ranks fourth. Richland has a team earned run average of 5.29.
Aaron Biediger is hitting .375 with 16 home runs, 18 doubles, one triple and 66 runs batted in. His 16 home runs are tied for second in the nation. His 66 RBI is tied for seventh, and his 18 doubles are tied for 10th. Jadon Fratus is batting .415 with 20 doubles, 11 home runs, a triple and 48 RBI. His 20 doubles are tied for fifth in the country. Nick Chalman is batting .405 with 19 doubles, five triples, eight home runs and 48 RBI. His 19 doubles are tied for eighth nationally. His five triples are tied for 12th. Jouseph Gelpi is batting .403 with 17 doubles, five triples, three homers and 35 RBI. He's also tied for 12th in the country in triples, and is tied for 16th in doubles. Wes Flatt is hitting .337 with 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 44 RBI and 29 stolen bases. His 29 stolen bases are tied for 25th in the country.
Jacob Blaede is 7-2 with a 3.34 earned run average and 76 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched. Blaede's 76 punchouts are tied for eighth in the country. Jason Scrantom is 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA and 65 strikeouts. His 65 strikeouts are tied for 22nd nationally. Taylor Hendrix has four saves and a 2.84 ERA in 14 appearances. His four saves are tied for fifth nationally.
