Thunderducks Beat Brookhaven, 13-3, in Conference Opener

DALLAS – Dallas College Richland's baseball team beat Dallas College Brookhaven, 13-3, in eight innings in the Dallas Athletic Conference opener Wednesday.

It signalled the third straight win for Richland, which improved to 8-3 at home. The Thunderducks (9-9, 1-0 DAC) have scored 11 runs or more in each of those last three games.

Jouseph Gelpi, Kelton Phillips and Nick Chalman each had three hits for the Thunderducks, who pounded 16 in the game.  Gelpi went 3-for-4 with a triple and a stolen base. Phillips was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Chalman was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Richland scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. After Brookhaven got one back in the top of the fifth to pull within a run, the Thunderducks responded with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Richland scored in each of their final four at-bats to put the game away.

Jordan Owns had two hits in five plate appearances, and drove in a run. Aaron Biediger went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a walk. Seth Markham was 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and a stolen base. Will Bomersbach doubled and drove in a run. Wes Flatt drove in two runs, and stole two bases.

It was Biediger's team-leading fifth home run of the season. He also leads the team with 23 RBI. Markham has three homers this year.

Jason Scrantom (2-2) went five innings, allowing three hits, three runs, two earned and three walks, while fanning 10 batters in the win. Carson Caudill pitched the last three innings, allowing one hit, two walks and no runs, while striking out four to pick up the save.

Richland will play the next two games of the series at Brookhaven Friday and Saturday.
